Re: Notes 07-14-2014

NOTES from 07/13/2014:

EVERYONE: Excellent job tonight! It was a little slow going still, but it's really coming together. Thank you for all of the wonderful characterizations I'm seeing and the hard work you're putting into this show. It's really going to pay off. I tell you!

LIGHTS: I really like the sunburst effect.

FILE. Before you sing the last part of AHD close the water tank before you go up.

ENSEMBLE: Acknowledge Jimmy as he passes by to ask File about Lizzie

JIMMY: Don't turn back to say there it is there it is.

STAGE CREW: Traveler closes during Lizzie's coming home.

NOAH: Stand stage right of Lizzie after she sits down. It might open the scene up a bit more.

LIZZIE: "He asked me to marry him." Don't rush to/through this line…separate.

LIZZIE: "No he's only nine years old" more sweetly towards Jimmy.

EVERYONE: Volume. Please make sure that you never lower your voice. And you should never actually whisper…in case you didn't know, whispering is bad for your voice!

NOAH: "What do you say Lizzie?" .Push the chair in if it isn't. This could be used to emphasize the point…

LIZZIE: I mentioned this already, but…I think that dress will work. Just don't take it all the way out of the bag and take the bag with you when you leave.

JIMMY: When you say, "Larking all over the place," Jimmy, stand and cross to HC so that you're closer when you notice the needle and thread.

JIMMY: Sit down on "…or something!"

H.C.: The part about Jimmy being ornery…say the first part to File and then when it applies to Jimmy, so that part to Jimmy.

NOAH/JIMMY: on the "Drink" ... "Lunch" lines, make those faster

JIMMY: After Poker Polka, pause for applause.

FILE: After the fight, don't go so far outside the light. Stay in the light.

ENSEMBLE: Don't block the "Lizzie's Dress" lines please. If anything, either wait until they're through before you cross to your spot or go around.

EVERYONE: During the prayer, be sure to close your eyes and bow your heads, but not too far down.

EVERYONE: if you have a line, be sure to keep your face turned toward the audience. You don't always have to look at the actor when you're delivering lines.

Toe... (??? If you know what this is in reference to…good!)

ENSEMBLE: Always stay "in the moment" and "in character when you're on stage. There should also be lots of reactions to your surroundings when appropriate, but not to the point of distraction.

SAMANTHA: As soon as you say "A rainmaker, a rainmaker" (which was great, by the way), be sure to go back up to Snookie (Harvee) for a minute and then go off stage.

STARBUCK: When you are describing the rain, remember to use the stage more and interact more with the town folk.

LIZZIE: I have during your "Noah/Pop" line, that I would like you to x to stop Noah so that you're on the other side of H. C.

STARBUCK: When Lizzie first calls you a con man, the timing of how you looked at her was great. Then there's the second time there is a musical flourish where you could do something. I'd like you to just smile at her before you start singing.

JIMMY: When you say… "I said 'nothing much'," pause before you say this.

LEADS: I hope you were making mental notes of the toughest parts for you, memorization-wise, so you can look over those. That said…EXCELLENT job on your memorization. There are a lot of lines and a lot of repeating lines in different orders…you're rocking it!

FILE: When you go to Jimmy and say, "That is some eye…" go upstage of Jimmy so that when you say your line, it's more toward the audience. And it will look more natural.

EVERYONE: Don't do a lot of hands in pockets, behind your backs or crossed arms etc. Some use of these devices are okay, but not over use.

FILE: When you tell Lizzie to stop sashaying around, face more front toward audience. I think this will look better.

COSTUMES: Hat for file?

NOAH: Come from upstage after file leaves, rather than downstage.

JIMMY: Push into Starbuck so that you end up more onstage for your line (at the end of the row).

MUSIC: We need to cut some of the angry running music at the beginning of old maid.

LIGHTS: at the end of old maid. Can the light close in on her until she's just spotlit?

LIZZIE: "You were born smith..." Not so fast.

STARBUCK: List each name as though you have a different fond memory of each. Not just a list of names.

STARBUCK: Let's work on Melisande together. Make it more storytelling-ish and full of actions relating to the words you're singing.

LIZZIE: At the first kiss, you already take a step back, I'd like you to take another step back to break the connection a bit more.

HANNAH/BELINDA: Make your lines a bit louder (but don't shout) and also, wait for Toby's lines at the end.

CLAIRE (ANNE): Where were you when Belinda/Hannah came out?

JIMMY: Give your cigar to hc before song.

SNOOKIE: This is going to sound impossible, but it won't be…face forward more and also show the elks tooth charm to H. C. and Noah.

EVERYONE: Please always be aware of where you are on stage and be sure to NOT be in a line with other people.

LIZZIE: When you say, "Not for him, for me." (Indicate yourself)

FILE: There might be somebody who thinks I was breaking the law... Pull Noah downstage a stop or two.

Thank you everyone! I'm really pleased with how things went tonight!

Just a quick note before I get to the real "Notes" of this e-mail... This week, we may rehearse until 11 p.m. I'd love it if we could get out of there early, but I make no promises. Progress must be made this week. If I see that you're reading my notes and making the changes, then I won't start reading notes "night-of;" however, if this isn't apparent, we'll stay until notes are through. While we are in a good place performance-wise, there's still lots of polishing and so on.

If you know of someone who has helped us with this show and there aren't listed as either cast or crew (meaning that they aren't fully a part of this show), I would like to thank so, so please let me know their name(s). This would include people we've borrowed things from, who have donated services or goods, etc... Just anyone we need to thank. Please get those names to me by tomorrow evening so that we can include them in the program.

Finally, we still have a fairly long to-do list regarding the set, so please...if you can spare some time this weekend, we need you to stop by. Bring people. There is literally something for everyone to do and we have a GREAT time! Right? If you can't be there this weekend, but you are available tomorrow, I think a group of people are going to be there tomorrow. Gloria can give more specifics on times and such.

I think that's it... now, on to the notes.

The TO DO List as of 07-13-2014:

WATER BARREL:

·         Make sure it's not crooked and screw it back into the stage.

·         Add the duct tape "strapping" to the top and bottom.

·         Make the wood look more "wood" like.

·         Add the word "Water"

·         Paint the outer lid the same color as the rest of ii.

·         Add lock latch.

BANDSTAND:

·         Replace the side pieces with larger versions of those.

·         Add bunting in a way that would allow us to easily remove them if we need to.

·         Find and add counterweights to the bandstand pieces. Where are the cinder blocks that used to be at STG?

·         Add more bunting(?) and/or other decorations(?)

·         Add cardboard at bottom to hide casters and to make the line across the different pieces more uniform. Paint this white as well.

WAGON:

·         Finish the covered part

·         Add posters and run a line so that the umbrellas can be hung from the wagon.

MASKING FLATS:

·         Place them and be sure that they are secured into the floor they will not move.

HANGING:

·         Hang the black legs (the two middle spots and the two back spots)

·         Hang the star curtain behind the band. It could be affixed to the black horizontal flats that are hung along the props loft.

·         Hang the sign(s)

·         Hang the Scrim(?) Use the black fabric that's hanging in the props loft (from the horizontal flats) to and affix this to the top of the scrim (to extend it).

PAINTING:

·         Tape gaps if any exist

·         Paint the main floor (see paint can that says main floor/stage paint)

·         Touch up the paint at the tops of the periaktois, using the small container of blue paint on the downstage part of the stage (File's office).

·         Also, if any periaktoi needs another coat, please paint it again. If you need white or black, it is in File's office on the downstage right portion of the stage.

·         Paint the walls in File's office to look like wood. They already have the base coat, you'll just need a darker color mixed with water and that wood grain painting tool in the paint room.

·         Add 8" (wide) lines all the way down the floor in File's office…Janet will get it to emulate wood floors. See the lines in The Curry House. There should be some markers there at the theatre.

·         Paint the scrim (Janet)

·         Paint the back two periaktois to look like the scrim (see the painting – Janet)

·         Paint the inside of the window green as well.

OTHER:

·         Add something to the top of the house…something decorative made of cardboard (see Janet)

·         Fix the folding chair (stored in the wings on stage left) so that Thom Grindle can sit in it. The seat seems a bit broken currently.

·         Add trim around the Curry House door and paint it green.

·         I would like a sign or a painting above the door that says "Home Sweet Home."

·         Make sure the bookshelves are screwed together and secure to the floor and then fill them with 1930's paraphernalia.

·         We need a couple of hooks for hats in the Curry House. Some place that makes sense, but that will not hinder the opening and/or closing of the flats.

·         In File's office, hang the clock on the top panel of the wall that has the desk on it.   Put it above where the desk is when closed.

·         In File's office, put something on the wall that would allow us to hang the wanted poster.

·         If we can secure it, I have a picture of my Great Grandmother that I'd like to use for the Curry House, otherwise, it may need to be painted on?

·         Monique is going to bring a stamp to use in the house to make it look like wallpaper, then make the walls look aged.
